An 18-year-old Ladera Ranch woman was killed Tuesday when the Porsche she was driving spun out of control on the 241 toll road after clipping another car at a high rate of speed, authorities said. The woman's name was not released pending notification of relatives.
The accident occurred about 1:45 p.m. when the Porsche, going more than 100 mph just south of Alton Parkway, changed lanes, clipped the rear end of a gray Honda going the same direction and careened across several lanes into a toll plaza building. The Honda's driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation, authorities said.
I don't mean to disparage the victim, but it's not the most prudent decision to let an 18-year-old drive a European sports car. Then again, parents in my county prefer to show love for their children by bestowing expensive gifts which are quickly discarded or destroyed by their recipients instead of providing structure and valuable life lessons. So this sad case of playing Fast and Furious on a private toll road is quite indicative of the overall attitude of our sick state of affairs.
yep. one less of "them" to look out for when i'm riding mi bici.

Thinking about the age, she was very young to die. May her soul rest in peace. That particular stretch of road is so vacant, I have seen people speeding there all the time.

Any car that can go from 60-100 mph with the tap of your toe is dangerous, but especially in the hands of an inexperienced driver. Had the parents bucked the trend and bought the kid a Volvo she might still be alive. Porsches are loaded with airbags and passive safety features, but they are scary fast.

she was drunk. and she stole the car from her dad to clear things up.

just so u guys can stop bickering over the opinion of her driving a porshe and whether a parent should give there child this type of car. Nikki was a very close family friend...the car was her stepdads and she stole it..there is a life lost..lets focuse on that..not the car and pointless ignorant arguements.

Quit judging! There are plenty of rich ignorant people out there that think buying an insanely expensive car for an inexperienced teen is showing them "LOVE". Not the case here! Just pray that you never have to bury your preciuos children, that they will have to bury you! I don't know this family, but my heart and prayers go out to them in this very sad time!
Rest in peace Nikki

Carol,
very sweet. one question though, since you "don't know this family" how do you know that "rich ignorant people out there that think buying an insanely expensive car for an inexperienced teen is showing them "LOVE"" is "not the case here?"
just wondering.

The crash and its gruesome pics have made it into the urban legends archive. Someone actually forwarded me the email a couple weeks ago.

I got this email today and the pictures are extremely graphic. What a sad tragedy. The words "got in an accident" do not describe the photos at all. Talk about a demolished car. Poor girl. A whole life ahead of her. Really, really sad. God be with her family and friends. My heart, love and prayers go out to all of you.

Do you know how fast a Porsche can go? Do you know how light they are? Putting one in the hands of an 18 year girl, boy or undecided is tantamount to child abuse. Hell, putting one in the hands of a 30 year old is probably the same.
Only Formula 1 drivers and Fighter Pilots have the reflexes, vision and skill to drive one of these goddamn things at speed.

very true crusader i can handle speeds in excess of 100mph in a automobiles ithe relfexes from being on a motorcycle but its very difficult and takes LOTS of practice. but i too can make mistakes the average person will have extreme trouble handling sketchy situations at that speed and a drunk person will be completely incapable. its all said and done and nobody should be rididuled and blamed. bad stuff happens...

hey tj. good stuff. nobody should be ridiculed and blamed. ever. for anything.
i concur.

Typical, focusing on the car!!! How about that drugs such as alcohol are killing our young at an alarming rate! This very young woman probably had a drinking issue to which her parents had no clue about. The real issue is when is the industry including; music, video, commercials going to stop targeting this generations young - OMG it's like a plague upon them! This young woman is dead!!!! And all you can talk about is the stupid car, not the fact that her drinking killed her. Is it that people are so blind they can't see the real issue.

Hold your horses. We will declare war on "music, video, commercials" next month.

The poor girl, blah, blah, blah...of course it's tragic. So is the poor kid in Roxbury sideswiped by a garbage truck and knocked into the Charles River while driving her grandma's 1989 Bonneville to the local drugstore to get insulin, for granddad. However, that story wouldn't get above the fold in the Globe, let alone get blabbed about all over the press.
The Porsche and the implied spoiled rich bitch connection gets the press. Ok, please re-read if you can handle words of more than one syllable my comments. The fact that she had the keys to a Porsche is tantamount to child abuse. If she was drunk, stoned, XXed out or anything else, well, then there is a lot of blame to go around. However, there are a lot of rich blonde kids in Orange County. Agi, by the way, is a brunette. And, doesn't drive a Porsche. There are more than enough rich Orange county children, so Darwin can handle an assist. There are not enough Porsches...My hair is gray-blonde, and I drive a lousy Charger. I like the thing, but it wouldn't bother me if ten Yuppie-spawn buy the farms in their 911s because Daddy just wanted the princess to be happy...so long as I could have the Porsche.
So, yeah, we declare class warfare on teenagers driving sports cars that cost more to insure than my first house did to buy. Fuck it, we declare a DATWA (we haven't done that for a while -- maybe Orange country Yuppie-spawn will be our new Hobbits...)on teenager anywhere driving anything cooler than a Mazda 6...Their parents obviously have.

you people are stupid you should be worrying about her not the fucking car i mean god she took it from her dad she was not rich she was sweet and she would never do anything like that so i suggest you stop talking about the car and worry about how this could happen to you you sick people show some respect those photoes shouldnt of got out to the public so leave it alone!

Rip Nikki my friend.

There are lessons to be learned from this.
She should not have been drinking in the first place. Her parental figures should have kept a tighter hold on her. Whether they enabled her, I do not know. But so many parents today are their children's friends, they host drinking parties for underage children so "they know where they are and what they are doing".
The car keys should have been secured. In my house, my husband asks for keys other than his own. When our children were teens and lived in the house, they did not know where the keys were and had to ask me for them.
