You know, I'm amazed at people. Seriously...someone tell me how this makes any goddamn sense at all. The deadliest day in Iraq... Sunnis and Shiites blasting the shit out of each other. You know, if we were to go back and check, I think we'd find that 150 dead in one day is pretty much an indication of civil war. You have terrorists, motar attacks, direct assault requiring intervention by a pretend Army (Iraqi) and the real Army ( US). The numbers keep changing, by the way -- headed upwards.
Meanwhile, we dither. William James famously urged that we find a place like the jungles of Brazil to let nations duke it out as need be. Cheney may be visiting Iraq to urge on the troops -- if the only place they can let him go out in public is an area under military control or a Republican function for neocons, I'd rather they had him at a DAR convention. At some point the troops will revolt.
The Marine Commandant wants 14 months between visits to the garden spot that is Iraq -- 14 months for every 7 in country. Can't do it. Army units are on their fourth visit -- get back, say hi to the family and start training. Except for the units in Iraq, the Army is broke as that noted liberal anti-war freak General Barry McCaffrey noted on Countdown this week. The shortfall in equipment -- deferred maintenance, worn out crap, new stuff that's needed -- is at $62B and counting. This is starting to look like the Paras and the Legion in Algeria...except the weasely guys in glasses (Think Battle of Algiers) are from Haliburton and Blackwater...
Happy Thanksgiving
They should stop trying to influence our elections...wait...
