since when do we stand together? and don't give me that remembrance crap, the memory of the folks who were killed at the wtc has long since been sullied into irrelevance. that ship has sailed. so when you stop and have your moment of silence once a year or once every five years, unless you actually consider the totality of the situation, that is why it happened and what we've done to ensure that it happens again.. you're just going through the motions. ya know, like in church.
never forgetting? more like always re-remembering things differently so as to justify the things that "feel" true.
and "oh how much our lives have changed." ugh. here's how my life has changed: 5 years ago, on this date, i was out riding my bike when the shit went down. i came into the office through the warehouse door and the news was blaring throughout the place via radio. nobody really knew anything, there was talk of bombs and more threats and general pandemonium. when the dust settled, it was not too long before my government started bombing the bejesus out of people who had nothing whatsoever to do with attacking us. ever. or even thinking of attacking us. they lied and most of you bought it. you love war. admit it. you like the killing, it makes you feel more like an american.
this morning, exactly 5 years later, you know what i was doing? i was out riding my bike. i came to work through the warehouse door, and folks were watching a mexican talk show. the thing about those shows is that the chicks are always hot. when i looked at the news it's just platitudes. meanwhile the bombs keep falling.
that's what i'll never forget.
but the folks in the picture are standing together so nicely. why can't we do the same?
two thumbs up for Spanish language TV. the chicks are hot and the sports announcers are muy entertaining.

I don't know. I think my life changed. I became convinced that we were being ruled by corrupt idiots; discovered Tiffany; and watched the average American lose income, stability and hope while the Army I love is being destroyed by these assholes. I guess my life changed...

Pretty much my sentiments too. I never felt any of the unity except in the sense of we're all unified, what's wrong with you. And the flags--everywhere--inescapable, each louder than the last, and all screaming conform!.
Reminds me of a book George didn't read.
Out riding your bike. I like it.

We've learned well the lessons of 9/11: Bring up 9/11 every chance you get, and repeat the words "evil," "freedom," and "terror" as many times as you can in every speech leading up to an election.
