Crusader AXE of the Lost Causes spent a couple of years in exile from the regular Army as a advisor to the Reserves. While I thought they were generally great people, the whole thing didn't make sense to me -- seemed like a lousy part time job, with the downside of ruining your entire life if the reason the organization existed ever actually came to pass.
So reading this bit this morning really resulted in "whathefuck are they thinking now?" Our only president has been listening to the polticals and is instinctively reaching out to his base...
"President Bush is expected to announce plans Monday to send
thousands of National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to help
stop illegal immigration.
Details were still being cobbled together Friday night..."
Hell, let's skip over the cobbling together bit. The last time this administration cobbled together a plan, we got the response to Katrina. Before that, the pacification and de-Baathization of Iraq. Those worked well...
Forget the fact that the guard and reserves have been decried as a broken force. Forget the fact that
the budget is already busted and your children -- the AXE has large, ferocious cats who do not require college educations, body piercings and IPODS -- will be crushed under the weight of destroying Iraq and ruining this country; forget the fact that these yahoos are generally insane. Is this the exit plan from Iraq -- we're going to build a great wall along our borders, so they can go directly to Bisbee Arizona and St Albans Vermont and start digging? Forget that the business community needs all the labor it can get. In order to placate the religious right and the unAmerican amongst us,
we're going to put Checkpoint Charlie in El Paso. Are they high? On Jesus? Jesus would say, "Let my people in..." But, their Jesus is neither the Bible's Jesus, nor the historical Jesus. Their Jesus is starting to look like the Nazi, Blonde-haired, blue-eyed and pillar of the community Jesus.
Fact: Half of the military is reserve component. They are not sitting around on their butts playing who's got the sausage in the drill halls -- they're either in Iraq, recovering from being in Iraq, coming back from Iraq or getting ready to go. That's the same thing as the regular force is doing -- except the Reserves and Guard have lives and are not geared up for this shit. Oh, yeah -- this is a military force -- are we militarizing our borders? To build a fucking wall? Or provide "logistical support...?" To whom, the Minute Man Project?
Here's an idea -- open the borders. We are a nation of immigrants. My homeland, if there is such a thing, is in County Cavan in the north of the Republic of Ireland. My home, on the other hand, is something else...the United States.
Assholes. Rascist hobbit twits. They deserve Bush.
By the way, did you see the bozo in dreadlocks and the American flag demonstrating with the Minuteman crew on capital hill and across country? Point -- federal law prohibits the use of the Flag as an article of clothing. While this has been ignored in the recent past, wearing the thing as a serape or poncho is definitely over the top. Back in the day, the construction workers would have been slamming this guy into the ground for desecration! And his friends...
Election year tap dancing...Americans just love to be pandered to.

Excellent post, but I disagree on one point - NOBODY deserves Bush, not even his shitty little acolytes.
