Yeah, right. If and when pigs fly with brooms and play quidditch. The Times editorial quoted above
begins promisingly, of course, as someone who's trying to be reasonable and honest about Iraq and is not totally ignorant will begin. Seeing endgame..."Iraq is becoming a country that America should be ashamed to support,
let alone occupy. The nation as a whole is sliding closer to open civil
war. In its capital, thugs kidnap and torture innocent civilians with
impunity, then murder them for their religious beliefs. The rights of
women are evaporating. The head of the government is the ally of a
radical anti-American cleric who leads a powerful private militia that
is behind much of the sectarian terror."
However, then they give a litany of how totally screwed up everything is, and how if only the Shiites would stop supporting Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari. Pointing out that we haven't got the clout to make that happen without screwing up even more, they then get into this crazed idea about how to make things right. Sheesh...
So, is Judy whatseherass now running the editorial page? Or are they just addicted to the half-glass metaphor?
Now, Commandante AGI and I met to confer briefly yesterday as I was escaping the clutches of corporate capitalism and he was taking an early afternoon off from trying to subvert international banking. We sat in the Long Beach airport, me sipping iced club soda while he stuck to the traditional water, waiting for the secret police to break in, and determined that in all likelihood, the Bush administration's plans for withdrawl from Iraq are through Iran. Since Afghanistan is sort of on the other side, we could withdraw from Afghanistan the next time they decide to do something we don't like through Tehran also. What a great idea...
Hmm, I think Iran will provide the military a chance to try out the new divine strake bomb, assuming the test in Nevada goes according to plan. Isn't there a precedent for this type of U.S. war exit-entrance strategy? When Vietnam was winding down didn't we bomb Laos and Cambodia like we were taking advantage of last call at the bar before the 2am close...
