it's hard to tell who among us is a defeatists because many would deny it with their dying breath. case in point - scott mcclellan - who seems to be wavering in our direction.
i read this story about the judge (from the super-double-secret spy court that everyone has heard of) that resigned to protest our dear leader's sidestepping even that small bit of oversight here.
A federal judge has resigned from the court that oversees government surveillance in intelligence cases in protest of President Bush's secret authorization of a domestic spying program, according to two sources.
while it's an interesting development on it's own, i kept coming back to this paragraph in the story.
At the White House, spokesman Scott McClellan was asked to explain why Bush last year said, "Any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so." McClellan said the quote referred only to the USA Patriot Act.
the guy isn't even trying anymore. granted scotty is no ari and never was but there is a certain defeated weakness to his answers these days. this sort of pathetic lying is beneath his previous level of prevarication and tap-dancing.
perhaps it's just fatalism, but on close inspection it seems closer to fatalism's inbred cousin: defeatism.
welcome scott.
What will his nickname be Rev? When he joins the site, I mean ...

I will not comment on being beaten like a gong during an ongoing investigation that is ongoing...
